» Rough two weeks

Sorry all for my silence lately. I’ve had a double whammy of being quite sick (ear and throat infection) for the last two weeks while having three long-running cases go to trial (I’m an attorney in real life).

I’m just barely now getting back on my feet and will try to get both JPs I’m involved in in the next day or two.

» Side Treks! And Launch Date?

Folks! Once you have your characters aboard, remember that we also have three "Side Treks" to engage in! You can post to these when you go to your Write Mission Post and then change which mission you're posting to. If you go HERE there is more information for these mini-missions!

Ideally we will use January to learn a bit about our characters and explore the Alpha Centauri Colonies (Toliman, Bon Proxima and Rigil Kentauros) through these Side Treks. I am hoping we will launch into our first interstellar mission at the end of January or the beginning of February.

If you have any questions about which Side Trek you'd like to engage in, just talk to LK or Kyle!


» Mission Day Explained

Hi Folks!

A few people are asking for clarification about how the Mission Day aspect works when writing a post.

We're using the Mission Day as a pseudo-Stardate.

Mission Days are a six digit number. They are put in as follows:

The first two digits are the year: 2258 is 58.

The middle two digits are the month: December is 12.

The last two digits are the day, 01-31. So the 22nd would be 22.

So, December 22nd, 2258 would read as 581222.

If a month or day come up as a single digit (such as March (03) or the 1st (01) simply add a zero in front.

So for example: March 1st, 2258 would be 580301.

In this way you can also flash back or back post. If you have a post that takes place on, say, February the 14th of 2254 your Mission Day would be: 540214.

» NPCs 101: Unlinked (Public) Vs. Linked

Hi Folks!

A few people have been asking how the NPCs work on Ochoa. Firstly as a player you are welcome to create NPCs within your own department (please ask the Chief player to create an NPC in a separate one as a courtesy). There are no particular limits on the numbers of NPCs you create, but if they are linked to you, you must use them.

Ochoa observes two different types of NPCs: Linked and Unlinked (or Public).

A Linked NPC is a character you create as an NPC and then myself or LK will link it back to you. You play them exclusively and when they are in a post, their inclusion will cause you to receive an email notifying you the post they are in was updated (this is exactly the same as for your PC). Linked NPCs are entirely under your control as is their ultimate fate (though the CO asks to please not off tons of NPCs. We're a small ship on a five year journey). A Linked NPC on the manifest will be marked NPC and will have a Played By name (so for example, Moshe Samble is a Linked NPC played by Kyle).

An Unlinked NPC is a character who may be a regular, but you're comfortable with allowing their use by anyone, not necessarily played by you. You are allowed to create Unlinked NPCs as well. These are not personal characters but as their creators, you establish their personality, family, etc. and any player who uses them is expected to abide by those characteristics. For the most part, Unlinked NPCs are meant to be filler characters. Please do not kill someone else's Unlinked NPCs.

Finally, for any "throwaway NPC" that might have a rank or a name but is otherwise unimportant, please include the Unlinked NPC "D-Series Computer" in your post.
